House officers at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital have accused President Mills of displaying a lukewarm attitude towards processes initiated to end the strike by the members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA). They claim the president instead of declaring a state of emergency and ensuring that the strike ends quickly, he rather chose to tour Greater Accra, commissioning projects while Ghanaians continued to die. The house officers, who have already joined the doctors on their strike, are said President Mills must be blamed for the current crisis in the health sector. They also described as false a publication by the daily graphic yesterday which sought to give the impression that doctors are being paid huge sums of money as salaries. Dr. Nene Limon Abayateye, the deputy leader of the House officers at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital said President Mills should have abandoned his tour of the Greater Accra and pay attention to the demands of the striking doctors. “If there is a nationwide strike by doctors and people are not getting access to health, we would have expected that this should become a major of the President than going round commissioning projects that could have been done later. “If Ghanaians are dying and the President truly cares about the people as he makes all of us believe he does, he shouldn’t have waited for Doctors to even go on strike for five days before instructing the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to meet the GMA for the first time. "We are totally disappointed in the President to say the least”.
